Vaheguru ji ka Khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki Fateh.
Welcome to Sikhroots website. My name is Aman Singh and I run this website with one of my friends, Harmeet Singh. We have been running now for over 10 years, in various different shapes and forms. We started out as Sikhi FM, which originally started to promote a local Sikh radio station started by some great individuals from Wolverhampton (UK). Thanks to that, the platform was created to build this website which then changed to Ekta One and now SikhRoots.com. (Don't worry, we have no plans to change the name again!). But why do we do it?
Back when I started out in 2002, the web was not what it is today. There were far less websites and the net was not openly available as it is today. There weren't many Sikh websites at all, although many were continuing to surface. Having your own space on the web was very expensive and bandwidth, to transfer files, was even more so. As a result of this, websites could not hold or upload much content and kirtan. Only a few existed and the best ones charged you to download. I didn't like this so I set out to do something about it.
With a few great sevadars by my side, we decided to travel up and down the country and around Europe. With what little we had as students, we travelled as much as we could, attending as many Keertan programs and camps as we could. The aim was to capture and share. We documented events with photographs and recordings, and uploaded everything we could to the website for free distribution. The website and our team became very well known and it paved the way for many other websites to open and start doing the same.
With the Grace of Guru Sahib, we now have this website with over 10,000 Gurbani and other religious tracks. We have tried our best to catalog each album, artist and track as much as we can and are still continuing to do so. As we have been going along, we come across certain tracks and events we recorded, that we felt should be highlighted amongst this huge collection. So we have decided to blog some of these and keep the website more current. It's still a work-in-progress, but we hope that it can inspire and help you in your own spiritual journey.
We are far from perfect but do our best to do our seva for the sangat. If we make any mistakes along the way, we beg for your forgiveness.
Aman Singh
